Grimsby contend farewell with miserable better Football

Grimsby"s 99-year stay in the Football League finished limply as they crashed 3-0 at Burton in a diversion they had to win to mount any possibility of survival.

Greg Pearson and Shaun Harrad (two) scored Burton"s goals.

Grimsby"s better meant relegation rivals Barnet"s outcome was academic, but the Bees grabbed a late leader at home to Rochdale anyway, Albert Jarrett grabbing the goal.

Champions Notts County, Rochdale and Bournemouth had already cumulative involuntary promotion before to the last day, whilst Rotherham and Aldershot"s places in the play-offs were additionally assured.

Both Rotherham and Aldershot lost as Morecambe won 1-0 to finish in fourth place and set up a play-off semi-final opposite Dagenham, who claimed a 2-0 win at already-relegated Darlington.

Rotherham and Aldershot will encounter in the other.

Wins for Morecambe and Dagenham meant beating for Bury, Port Vale and Chesterfield, who were anticipating for a slip-up. Bury and Port Vale both drew while Chesterfield kick promoted Bournemouth 2-1 to finish an agonising dual points short of the play-offs.
